About Ankara

Ankara is the capital city of Turkey, besides that it has an amazing historical past and lots of incredible places to visit. Ankara hosted lots of old, big, important civilizations like Hittites, Lydians, Roman Empire, Byzantium, Seljuks and Ottoman Empire. At last, it became the capital city of the Republic of Turkey. It has 8 districts such as Etimesgut, Yenimahalle, Mamak, Çankaya, Keçiören, Altındağ, Akyurt and Pursaklar.


The most important symbol of Ankara is Anıtkabir. There takes place the monument of Atatürk, who is the founder of the Republic of Turkey. Anıtkabir is in Anıttepe, which can see the entire city. It has 8 towers, 1 park, 1 museum, a sarcophagus, a mausoleum, a lounge, a 33,5 meters long flagpole and a special road which is surrounded by lions on the left and right sides.


Ankara has it’s own house types as in Ayaş, Beypazarı and Güdül. You should visit these regions, especially Beypazarı houses, are the most popular and beautiful ones of them all.


Ankara has one of the most delicious foods in Turkey. As soup: dutmac, keskek, miyane soup and dugun soup. For the foods with meat; Ankara tava, kadinbudu meatball and orman kebab are the most popular ones of them all. Besides these manti, mumbar dolmasi, cilbir, mihlama, hosmerim, gozleme and salty pastry are Ankara’s other recognizable tastes.


Ankara goats, rabbits, cats, pears, Crocus Ancyrensis and Centaurea Tchihatcheffii are the symbols of Ankara.


When you come to Ankara you should visit some parks like A.O.Ç., Altınpark, Çamlık, Göksu Park, Gökçek Pak, Mogan Park, Blue Lake and Karagöl. A.O.Ç. (Atatürk Orman Çiftliği) is the most known and important one of all these. It is a huge place where you can go on a picnic with your friends, ride bikes, go to the zoo or even just have a great time eating A.O.Ç.’s own ice cream.


If you want to visit some museums, you can visit Anıtkabir’s Museum, Anatolian Civilizations Museum, Atatürk’s Residence During the War of Independence And Railways Museum, Gordion Museum, Roman Bath, II. Turkish Grand National Assembly Republican Museum, Independence War Museum, State Museum of Painting and Sculpture. Don’t forget that you can always go to Kızılay, 7. Street or to the malls around Ankara to shop.


Last but not least we would recommend you to watch CSO (Presidency Symphony Orchestra), where the best musicians of Turkey are gathered with your remaining time.
